GOSHAWKS GYMNASTICS CLUB

Goshawks Gymnastics Club is affiliated to British Gymnastics, County, and Region Gymnastics Associations.

Goshawks Gymnastics Club provides training for boys and girls from the age of five in the sports of General Gymnastics, Sports Acrobatics, Sports Aerobics, trampolining, and Olympic Gymnastics.. Children from the ages of three to five train in our separate Gym Chicks session. Children can progress to the main club at the age of five, or earlier if mature enough

Currently the club has just over sixty members who train at Brockhurst Junior, Bridgemary Community, Brune Park, and Henry Cort, schools. The club is looking for a more permanent home, although the Olympic size equipment is at Bridgemary, and Henry Cort, because of the ceiling clearance.

Pre-school children are introduced to the club via the Gym Chicks which give them an enjoyable activity to help them prepare both physically and mentally to progress to the main club. Older children are introduced to the sport through the main club, and if prepared enough, and have the physical and mental discipline, can be admitted into one of the three more advanced squads for competition training. Our aim, however, is to give all children the opportunity to enter competitions, and perform at displays.

All children are given the opportunity to participate in the many British Gymnastics award schemes.

Children in the main club can train at any of the available sessions, as many times a week as they wish. Squad gymnasts must train on Tuesday evenings, and Saturday afternoons, as well as other sessions to maintain their fitness. There is a place in Goshawks Gymnastics Club for all people whether they wish to train once a week for fun, or many hours a week as an elite gymnast.

The club is divided into four teams so that internal competitions can be held, and to encourage gymnasts to work for awards, attend displays, and to work hard. Team points can be taken away as disciplinary measures. The list of teams, (subtitled after British birds of prey), and their members for 2002 are listed in this handbook.

We have a list of club rules, which are given to every new member of the club, and also to be found at the back of this handbook. We do ask you to abide by these rules, as the safety of the children is paramount. Our coaches are trained to ensure that the risk of any injury is minimal in what is a demanding but very enjoyable sport.

The club colours are black, silver grey and gold. (Competing Sports Aerobics:- blue and black.) Leotards, sweatshirts, jogging bottoms, T shirts etc. can be purchased from the club, and a full price list is available. All prices below are based on current stock.
